New Yorker Shoffy Takes Control of the Indie Scene With New Fusion Single “Nightmares in NYC”
When you’ve found your niche within two or more worlds, your versatility will be rewarded and recognized. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Nightmares in NYC”, the latest single from Shoffy. A versatile multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Shoffy is a refreshing newer addition to the New York indie scene. Focusing on blending electronics with feel-good pop, Shoffy has already started picking up speed and support from major tastemakers including The Fader, Billboard Magazine, Idolator, and Clash Magazine. Shoffy has also already charted on Billboard US Top 40 Radio as well as Spotify Viral charts, which led to headling two national tours. Yeah, Shoffy is already a bid deal and if you aren’t paying attention to this hybrid artist, you’re missing out.
“Very excited to be sharing the first single of my new project. I wrote and produced “Nightmares In NYC”, and it came together quite naturally – started with a piano sample that I then wrote and added additional piano chords. I then played guitar in the verses, which have a sweet sort of longing tone as they rise and fall. The lyrics and melody just came to me together – the idea of a long distance relationship, feeling isolated in a big city, and growing apart. Releasing a music video which will really explore these themes visually, and I can’t wait to share that as well.” – Shoffy
Those that have followed Modern Neon for any amount of time know we absolutely love hybrid and fusion artists who aren’t afraid to take their love of genres and mash them together into their own sound. Shoffy embodies this idea as an artist and uses the first single off of his upcoming album, “Nightmares in NYC”, to showcase his hybrid production style. Combining elements of hip-hop, lo-fi, pop, and electronic music, Shoffy is able to carefully craft a chill hop sound that is unique to his overall aesthetic and signature as a producer. This fusion aesthetic translates directly over to the music video as well, with the video focusing on Shoffy as he is constantly shifting his image and idea of self as he wanders heartbroken throughout New York City. While the single is already addicting enough as it is, this video takes it to the next level and shows just what you can accomplish as an indie artist.
