Logan Lynn Releases ‘The Pain and The Power Original Motion Picture Soundtrack’ to Award-Winning Documentary Presented by Portugal. The Man’s KNIK Records
Portland artist and activist Logan Lynn has released The Pain and The Power, the original motion picture soundtrack to the award-winning documentary directed by Cai Indermaur and presented by PortuGAY, the LGBTQ+ imprint of KNIK Records founded by Portugal. The Man. Alongside the release, Lynn shared the focus track and visualizer “A Billion Dollars,” offering a new entry point into a deeply personal project shaped by themes of identity, addiction, trauma, faith, recovery, and self-reinvention.
The documentary traces Lynn’s 30-year career through stories involving The Dandy Warhols, The Get Up Kids, Tiffany, and his embattled relationship with Harvey Weinstein, while treating the accompanying music as an active part of the narrative rather than simple background. Together, the film and soundtrack form an autobiographical portrait of an artist confronting the highs, damage, and transformation of three decades in music on his own terms.
“‘The Pain And The Power’ feels like the culmination of my entire life and career to this point. The film and album are really two parts of the same story…looking back at where I’ve been, what I survived, what I lost, and what it took to become the person I am now. I’ve spent nearly three decades making music and telling pieces of this story along the way, but I’ve never opened the door this wide before.”
“There’s something incredibly powerful about taking experiences that once carried so much pain and shame and turning them into art. That has always been my way through these experiences. Releasing this project feels like closing a very long chapter while also beginning something completely new. More than anything, I hope people see themselves somewhere in this work and come away believing that none of us are defined by the worst thing that has happened to us, or by the worst things we’ve done.”
The Pain and The Power is an intimate documentary portrait of artist, activist, and survivor Logan Lynn, tracing his journey from a fundamentalist Christian upbringing in rural Nebraska and Texas through religious trauma, abuse, addiction, underground acclaim, public collapse, and eventual self-reinvention. Told through candid interviews, archival footage, home movies, vintage tour clips, and behind-the-scenes material, the film avoids a conventional redemption narrative in favor of something more complex: a meditation on survival, identity, and what it means to outgrow the versions of yourself that once helped you endure.
The accompanying album mirrors that same process of letting go. Featuring collaborations with Kyle Andrews, Brian Fortson of Classtronaut, and Dale Hiscock of Endless Atlas, the record explores loss, forgiveness, faith, love, and the grief that comes with change. Rather than presenting healing as a destination, The Pain and The Power finds freedom in accepting the aftermath and releasing the people, beliefs, and identities that no longer need to be carried forward.
