La Sécurité Announces New Album Bingo! Out June 12 | Shares Jagged Single + Video “Bingo” Premiered via POST-TRASH
La Sécurité (Montréal/Tiohtià:ke) is an art punk collective known for their electrifying mix of jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements, and minimalistic melodic hooks, all filtered through the city’s neon-soaked energy. Their music is both danceable and slightly dangerous, with lyrics inspired by the Riot Grrrl ethos that celebrate women’s autonomy, friendships, and acts of benevolence. Following their Polaris Music Prize 2024 long-listed debut Stay Safe! and its remix companion, the band released singles like “Detour” and “Ketchup,” setting the stage for their sophomore album Bingo!, this time also partnering with the iconic Bella Union. With it, they continue to playfully navigate the edges of punk, new wave, and krautrock, refusing to stay within any single genre.
Offstage, La Sécurité’s energy is just as vivid, whether performing in underground venues, festival rooftops, or live on Riley & Coe. Their VHS session for Audiotree Live captures the band’s signature mix of disheveled music, expressive poetry, and improvisational movement, showing how dance and spontaneity are central to their creative process. Through their performances and recordings, La Sécurité transform every song into a kinetic, immersive experience that blends urban grit, playful chaos, and a defiant, celebratory punk spirit.
“‘Bingo’ was a working title Melissa used to save the demo when we were working on the song. The lyrics came later following a suggestion from Félix to describe a game of Bingo, to put into words the social life from an old folks home—elderly people that are young at heart, hence the references to Orange Crush, little hats, etcetera. The bass line and its tone are a tribute to Death From Above 1979.”
Montreal’s art punk collective La Sécurité are back with their second album, Bingo!, dropping June 12 via Mothland in North America and Bella Union everywhere else. The album takes everything that made their debut so exciting—bilingual art rock, quirky melodies, and playful energy—and pushes it further, weaving in no wave, noise rock, and shoegaze textures. The songs are fun and danceable but still unpredictable, full of hooks and sonic surprises that keep you on your toes while showcasing the band’s knack for balancing chaos with control.
The title track, “Bingo,” is a standout: a frenetic, hook-filled blast of early-2000s disco punk vibes, with pounding drums, crunchy bass, fuzzy guitars, and bright synths. Its lyrics come from the filename of an early voice-memo demo, a perfect example of the band turning small, spontaneous ideas into something full of life. The video, directed by Philippe Beauséjour, is a colorful, collage-style whirlwind that captures the jittery excitement of a bingo hall—what starts as a casual game quickly turns into obsession, fueled by repetitive motions, sugary drinks, and mounting anticipation. With Bingo!, La Sécurité show how even the smallest sparks of inspiration can explode into wild, joyful, and artful music.
