Indonesian Producers Weird Genius Drop Bass-Centric Variant Remix of R3HAB’s “Runaway”
We may have fallen for the OG version of R3HAB’s first album single, but we are always open to other renditions. On our latest visit over to CYB3RPVNK we are checking out a brand new remix of R3HAB’s “Runaway” from Weird Genius. Based out of Indonesia, this trio of superb producers has been making waves in Southern Asia for a hot minute. Catching the attention of the modern dance world with their banger “Hush” alongside Yellow Claw, which has netted over 12 million streams on Spotify since dropping last year. The group then caught the attention of Astralwerks with their single “LATHI”, which smashed expectations and has over 200 million streams online. Now on the global stage, all eyes are on Weird Genius, eager to see what they drop next. R3HAB was one of the initial producers to see the potential that Weird Genius has to offer, even releasing an official remix of “LATHI”!
As R3HAB’s first single from his third album, we have high expectations for any official remixes of “Runaway” that come out of the woodwork. However, we do have to thank this remix for putting Weird Genius on our radar, as they are definitely one of the most talented acts coming out of Southeast Asia. With the original track thriving as a dance-pop fusion, Weird Genius stepped in and shifted the track’s perspective a bit. Moving away from the dance-pop crossover elements, the remix shifts gears and focuses on the new wobbly bassline and stabbing synths. While the remix extracts the majority of the uplifting vibes the original holds, the darker variant still harnesses that same level of energy and builds around the OG’s soulful vocals. If you were eagerly waiting for a darker flip on R3HAB’s bright dance-pop crossover, Weird Genius has you covered.
