idkRaeven Releases Dark and Suspenseful New EP ‘NETHERWATER’
idkraeven’s music is shaped by a traumatic upbringing, marked by emotional abuse from her adoptive parents and a period of homelessness at 17. Despite these challenges, she found solace in songwriting, creating music in a barn behind her West Covina home. Influenced by artists like Lil Peep and Twenty One Pilots, she blends emo’s raw emotion with melodic rap, adding a fresh, feminine perspective to the genre. After sharing her music on SoundCloud and building a following on TikTok, she was signed by TAG music at 19.
Her debut EP *NETHERWATER* delves into her personal struggles, using the River Styx from Greek mythology as a metaphor for her emotional state—physically resilient but mentally tormented. The project explores themes of trauma, survival, and the internal battles that continue to affect her, with imagery of Hell reflecting her ongoing emotional pain.
idkraeven’s debut EP *NETHERWATER*, produced by Devin Corey, presents her as a calm presence amid the chaos of her traumatic past. The project reflects her journey from dysfunction to stability, confronting her emotional scars from an abusive upbringing and a broken foster care system. Opening with “BLEED OUT,” she directly addresses her adoptive parents, calling out the harm they caused and the hypocrisy of their religious beliefs, especially in their rejection of her bisexuality. This track is a defiant “fuck you,” holding them accountable while shedding light on the failings of foster care.
The EP continues to explore deeply personal themes, such as sexual abuse, relationship struggles, and mental health. Songs like “myskinisraw” and “shit” tackle the pain of abuse and breakups, while tracks like “soul spillage” and “STR8FRMHLL” delve into insecurities and inner turmoil. With fearless honesty, *NETHERWATER* reveals idkraeven’s resilience as she navigates the darkness of her past and the emotional challenges that persist.
