Hetalia: Paint it White!: Unexpected Allies?
Hello everybody! Today we have another installment of the Hetalia series, Hetalia: Paint it White!
You can check out my review of the other installments here:
HETALIA: PAINT IT WHITE!
DIRECTOR: Bob Shirohata
WRITER: Hidekazu Himaruya
GENRE: Historical, Comedy
ORIGINAL RUN: June 5th, 2010
NUMBER OF EPISODES: One film
COUNTRY: Japan
The movie involves a mysterious force causing unusual incidents to happen all over the world, and the nations having to try to ward off the threat of human extinction from the alien race known as Pict, who seek to transform mankind and drain the color from the world (with America deciding that the world will be saved under his command). Recaps of the Hetalia anime series are interspersed throughout the film, showcasing different segments.
Hetalia: Paint It White! Is the animated feature film that takes place in the middle of the Hetalia series. The film is rather enjoyable for the most part, especially since it features a unified force of the “World 8”: America, China, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia. Only hilarity can ensue when we have so many different characters trying to fight against one common goal, the Pict. The film’s actual runtime is shorter than listed, as clips from the show are included in segments throughout the film.
As stated above, there are multiple clips from the Hetalia series that appear throughout the film. I think that this is a serious drawback since it takes away from the tone and pace of the film itself. The film’s attempt at stretching out its structure to longer than five minutes is at some points laughable. The Axis Powers once again steal the show, even if it is against a disappointing antagonist. Good luck next time Allies!
PROS:
- Rather enjoyable overall.
- Unified forces.
- Hilarious moments.
CONS:
- Multiple clips from the show appear in the film.
- Attempt to stretch out its structure.
- Run-time.
SCORE: 6.0 / 10
