Germany Meets South Korea, Deniz Koyu x Raiden Craft Dance-Pop Crossover “Am I”
In a world full of collaboration, there are treats like these that put bright wide smiles on our faces. On our latest visit over to Protocol we are checking out “Am I”, the latest single from Deniz Koyu and Raiden. A veteran in the world of progressive and electro house, Koyu has been rather busy leading these genres and molding them into their modern iterations. With massive hits such as “Tung!”, “Bong”, and the house indie pop fusion that ended up as “Paradise”, Koyu is determined to assist these genres in growing back to their peak. Koyu has been diligently at work with KO:YU, releasing a few high-profile remixes for The Chainsmokers and Alesso. We may not have many moments to just let Deniz take the stage, but he always adds a solid contribution to every track he collaborates in. Raiden is a superb producer in his own right, so this latest collaboration is a major force to be reckoned with.
While you both might be known for your insanely energetic festival bangers, it is nice to take a break and explore another option. Both coming from higher energy styles, Koyu and Raiden both explore their softer sides to fully embrace this latest single. “Am I” is an innocent and emotional dance-pop crossover that blends the works of German house with light K-pop influences, straddling an interesting middle ground. With Raiden spending more time away from the EDM world while focusing on K-pop and composing for various TV shows, we aren’t surprised by the almost K-pop feel. Utilizing a gentle melody and rolling bassline, “Am I” ends up a solid mid-party single to keep the lights going once some of the partygoers start to shut down. We’d like to see more from Koyu and Raiden, fingers are crossed that we will hear about another release in the works soon.
