Freedom Fry & Vinessa Shaw (Hocus Pocus) Share Reimagined Version of “Come Little Children”

Indie-pop duo Freedom Fry are bringing a fresh twist to Halloween with their haunting rendition of “Come Little Children,” teaming up with Hocus Pocus star Vinessa Shaw for an eerie, nostalgia-filled collaboration. Drawing inspiration from horror classics like Scream, Halloween, and Hocus Pocus, the duo trades traditional pop production for delicate acoustic arrangements, whispery vocals, and chilling harmonies that give the beloved Halloween staple a whole new atmosphere. Shaw, who famously portrayed Allison in the 1993 cult classic, brings more than just a nostalgic connection to the track. With a background in barbershop quartet singing, she adds intricate vocal layers and a spoken-word element, giving the song an almost hypnotic quality reminiscent of The Mamas & the Papas. The result is a beautifully unsettling reinterpretation that captures the magic of the original while offering something darker, more intimate, and refreshingly unexpected.
To celebrate the release, Freedom Fry and Vinessa Shaw are dropping a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl featuring “Come Little Children” on Side A and an exclusive a cappella version on Side B, available in three collectible editions, including signed copies. The collaboration follows Freedom Fry’s recent acoustic reimagining of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” further establishing the duo’s knack for turning iconic Halloween favorites into atmospheric, genre-bending gems that feel both familiar and entirely their own.

“Halloween is our favorite holiday, and the mood of the music and subject matter of the lyrics are way more exciting to us than typical pop songs. We started thinking about songs from some of our favorite horror and horror-comedy films like ‘Scream,’ ‘Halloween,’ and of course ‘Come Little Children’ from ‘Hocus Pocus.’ It felt good to keep everything acoustic and whispery, and really lean into the spookiness.

Vinessa has an awesome voice with a huge range, and we love what she brought to the song. We hope these become songs that people want to put on when they’re looking for that Halloween mood but want something a little different and fresh.” – Freedom Fry

Indie folk-pop duo Freedom Fry are putting a haunting new spin on a Halloween classic, teaming up with Vinessa Shaw, best known for playing Allison in the beloved 1993 film Hocus Pocus, for an atmospheric reimagining of “Come Little Children.” More than three decades after the film first captured audiences, the collaboration breathes new life into one of its most memorable musical moments, trading theatrical spookiness for delicate acoustic arrangements, whispery vocals, and ghostly harmonies. Shaw brings an extra layer of nostalgia and authenticity to the track, drawing on her background in close-harmony singing to create a beautifully eerie rendition that feels both familiar and refreshingly unexpected. The result is a chilling, cinematic take that captures the magic of the original while embracing a darker, more intimate sound.

The track appears on Freedom Fry’s new EP, Haunts, a five-song collection of acoustic Halloween reimaginings that swaps campy seasonal gimmicks for something moodier and more timeless. Following their stripped-back interpretation of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” the duo continues to give spooky-season staples a fresh identity, proving that sometimes the most haunting sounds come from the quietest arrangements.
