Cassie Marin Furthers Her Genre Exploration With New Electro-Pop Single “Floating”
Sometimes you never know what kind of path an artist will take, even if you follow them from the beginning. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Floating”. the latest drop from Cassie Marin. Hailing from the ever-bright city in the sun of Miami, Marin actually didn’t have dreams early on of being a musician. Originally focused on being a gymnast, Marin wanted to become an Olympian athlete and stepped onto that career path as soon as she could. However, after having those dreams dashed after a serious injury at age 13, Marin discovered her love for music. Teaching herself how to produce and write songs from the ground up, Marin pivoted her dedication to being an Olympian into creating the exact kind of music that she had rattling around in her head.
“‘Floating’ is all about coping with isolation and discovering beauty in the mundane. It embraces us when we find it difficult to relate to others, or when we feel like some alien creature that has fallen from the sky. It packs this celestial sense of liberation that, when I wrote it, got me out of questioning who I was and how I was supposed to feel about it. I was reminded that there is never anything wrong with being different. I hope to take my listeners to this place, into the freedom of the sky, floating, above all doubt and fear, embracing fully the present moment and all that we are.” – Cassie Marin
When you have a background and are a multi-instrumentalist like Marin, you can pretty much grab a machete from the shed and cleave your own path forward. As she leads up to her next album drop, expected some time this summer, Marin has been thriving in the alternative space just left of traditional pop. While using alt-pop as her foundation, Marin has no problem breaking down genre barriers and trying something new, throwing the avant-garde into her formula in order to make a sound that is truly just Marin. With “Floating” being the latest result of this experimentation, this electropop number showcases just how far Marin has grown as a musician. Her true skill is building an instrumental or production that has layers and layers of different meanings, some personal some superficial. It is all how you interpret the process.
