Bordeaux’s Quintana Dead Blues eXperience Deliver Dark, Distorted Rock on New LP ‘Ashes’
Quintana Dead Blues eXperience is the long-running project of Bordeaux musician Piero Quintana, shaped by decades of work across multiple bands since the early ’90s and a long stretch performing solo as a one-man band. That period stripped his approach down to its core—just guitar, drum machine, and raw volume—cementing a style built on instinct, emotional honesty, and pure rock ’n’ roll energy rather than polish or restraint. Across every phase, the focus has stayed the same: making music that feels immediate, physical, and fully committed.
Now joined by drummer Adrien Schiavone, the project becomes a heavier, more volatile duo where everything is amplified. Quintana’s thick, fuzzed-out guitar work locks into Schiavone’s thunderous drumming to create a dense mix of blues-rock, grunge, and heavy rock energy that feels both chaotic and controlled. The result is loud, sweaty, and unfiltered—music that plays like a live explosion, driven by sticky riffs, pounding rhythms, and a constant sense that it could tip over at any moment without ever losing its grip.
Quintana Dead Blues eXperience return with Ashes, a gritty, no-frills album that fully embraces the band’s blues-rock, stoner, grunge, and garage rock influences. Led by Piero Quintana and now joined by drummer Adrien Schiavone, the duo trades polish for pure energy, creating a heavier and more unpredictable sound than ever before. Drawing inspiration from bands like Black Sabbath and Nirvana while staying rooted in the French rock underground, Ashes feels like the work of musicians who trust instinct over perfection.
Recorded live over just three days at Silver Recordings in Bilbao with CAPSULA’s Martín Guevara producing, the album captures every rough edge and spontaneous moment. Thick riffs, exposed vocals, and powerful drumming give tracks like “Spell on Me,” “Wild as Fire,” and “Still Haunted” an undeniable sense of urgency, while the band’s take on Nirvana’s “School” adds an even heavier bite to the classic. The result is a record that feels raw, immediate, and best experienced at full volume.
