The Deathray Davies are back with First Single “Red Lights” From Upcoming Album ‘LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE’
Continuing the momentum of their post-hiatus resurgence, The Deathray Davies return with “Red Lights,” the first advance single from their forthcoming album LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE. Arriving November 6, 2026 via Having Fun / We Are Busy Bodies, the 13-track record finds the Dallas indie-rock veterans digging deep into their own history while pushing their paisley-colored garage pop into increasingly adventurous territory. Built from vintage garage-rock grit, psychedelic-pop melodies, and intricately arranged studio experimentation, LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE plays like a collection of miniature pocket symphonies: compact songs packed with warped textures, unexpected instrumental flourishes, musique concrète touches, and the kind of meticulous production details that reveal themselves gradually with repeated listens.
The record follows 2021’s Time Well Wasted, which marked The Deathray Davies’ return after a 15-year recording hiatus. But where that album announced the band’s reemergence, LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE reaches even further into the past. Much of its foundation comes from a recording project first started in 2006 and ultimately shelved, leaving behind a cache of unfinished sessions, fragments, arrangements, and musical ideas that remained dormant for nearly two decades. Rather than treating those recordings as archival curiosities, the band returned to them with fresh ears, pulling apart the original sessions and rebuilding the strongest ideas into something that feels simultaneously rescued from another era and unmistakably alive in the present.
“Red Lights” provides the first glimpse into that world. The track embodies the album’s combination of sharply written indie rock and psychedelic ornamentation, pairing the band’s melodic instincts with arrangements that feel increasingly expansive the closer one listens. Beneath the immediacy of the song sits a dense network of vocal harmonies, horns, layered guitars, and carefully manipulated sonic details—a balance between concise pop craftsmanship and playful experimentation that runs throughout the record.
