Black Caviar Revisits Dim Mak With Witty Hustle House Single “Collect Check” Ft. EMIDA
There are only a handful of artists that absolutely crush it right out of the gate, inserting themselves into the music scene in one fell swoop. On our latest visit over to Dim Mak we are checking out “Collect Check”, the latest from Black Caviar and EMIDA. Bursting into the scene back in 2017 with his mega-hit “Coco” (which has amassed over 18M streams online), Black Caviar has been crushing every rung of the ladder on his trajectory upward. A handful of original singles including “What’s Up Danger” with Blackway, better recognized as the lead track on Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse, netted Black Caviar not only a certified gold record but also a Grammy nomination! Coming off of such a monumental achievement, Black Caviar has been tapped to provide remixes for many players in the industry including a house twist on Dillon Francis‘ “DFR,” and a fresh variant of Louis The Child and Foster The People‘s “Every Color,”. Black Caviar has gained the attention and support from many powerhouses including Lizzo, Tiesto, R3HAB, and Jason Derulo just to name a few. Just to give you an idea, Black Caviar’s catalog has amassed over 300M streams on Spotify alone!

“The songwriting process was spurred from a period of financial instability. It led me to write about wanting to hustle out of that situation and aspire to a more opulent lifestyle. The lyrics’ collect cheque – run it back’ are about getting paid but still wanting more because It’s never enough. Ending with ‘run it forward’ – straight to the bank. It was a fun song to write because money can be quite a taboo subject. But with this track, I wanted to make it cheeky, sassy and cool.” – EMIDA
While today’s single may have a bit of the “hustle” culture absurdity to it, looking beyond the surface it actually explores something much more important. Black Caviar’s second single with Dim Mak (after 2019’s Alright Alright, Okay / Zonin’ EP) “Collect Check” is a witty and bouncy take on hustling for that ever-disappearing dollar. The song actually comes from the growing relationship with financial instability, an ever prevalent struggle with people all around the world during the global pandemic. Instead of wallowing in the gloom, Black Caviar recruits EMIDA to add her witty and smooth vocals to the mix…all while making a dance-friendly house banger in the process. Velvety smooth and groovy, “Collect Check” lets its melodies run wild while keeping a deep minimal bassline for listeners to dance along to. Black Caviar sure knows how to make a groovy production!
