Bass Maestro Super Future Revisits SSKWAN With Enchanting Atmospheric Bass “Equilibria” EP
Downtempo may just be the latest genre to enrapture and score the soundtrack to our lives. On our latest visit to SSKWAN we are checking out Equilibria, the latest EP from Super Future. Easily a rising star in the bass music world, Super Future may just be our latest maestro to our personal soundtrack. Riding high on the momentum from his earlier years of creating captivating live performances and performing at major electronic festivals, Super Future shows that there is a wide range of music at his disposal and will puppeteer whatever beats he can to bring his vision into reality. An expert in sound design, Super Future’s worlds are audible experiences that will take the listener on a mesmerizing, psychospiritual journey. We may have initially been introduced to Super Future during his SSKWAN debut earlier this year with MIZE in “Satori”, Equilibria keeps us eager to stay and watch a modern musical craftsman at work.
“I have always looked to WAKAAN as the leading edge of music creation, and so I’ve had my sights set on becoming a WAKAAN artist. This is still true today, however, something changed the day I watched Liquid Stranger (with ingenious dramatic flair) at Wakaan Festival announce the brother label, SSKWAN. I’d known that within my artistry, I was also wanting to express a more beautiful and entrancing side. I had a lot of fun learning what it was to be a freeform bass artist, and I wondered why that fun energy couldn’t be expressed with a more emotive and beautiful tone?
“When Liquid Stranger came out with that announcement, I knew the music in my head had a home. I’ve always been looked to for my sound design and my unique ability to bring beauty to bass, so I shot my shot with MIZE. That first attempt at heart-opening downtempo was a huge success in my eyes artistically, and our combined fan bases were equally ready for this new sound, and I was immensely proud that SSKWAN was the label to release it because of who ran it and what it showed people. Downtempo music is not only just ambient and meditative, it can have the same bite and flavor that makes WAKAAN so interesting!” – Super Future
The more that we dive into the more ambient side of the bass music world, our outlook and appreciation for the world-building elements of music continues to increase. Using the pain and chaos that the world continues to experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Super Future built an entire album around the concept of achieving equilibrium, or the balance of powers and forces. Using Equilibria and his atmospheric bass music as vehicles, Super Future explores more ethereal subjects such as mindful listening, being present within every moment, and spiritual empowerment. The world Super Future molds throughout Equilibria feels as if we are inside a living organism, listening to it breathing and its electronic bass-filled heart beating. Music is a powerful tool and if we can use to it look inward and reflect on our actions as a people, maybe we can all learn how to move forward with what we have left. If you are an electronic music fan and not appreciating the talent fueling the bass music world right now, you might need an adjustment.
