Monocule Drops 8th Release on Protocol, Ethereal Dark House Single “Awakening” Ft. Sarah De Warren
Sometimes when you have a craving to work under a certain style, you just need to slip into your alter ego real quick. On our latest visit to Protocol Recordings we are checking out “Awakening” from Monocule and Sarah De Warren. Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series back in 2019 and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon. With the creation of Monocule, the expansion of Protocol Recordings, and multiple partnerships across multiple industries, Romero is definitely the producer to be watching right now.
After eight releases under the Monocule persona, it looks like Romero still has plenty of fire and drive to thrive in this style of electronic muisc. Bringing along British singer/songwriter Sarah De Warren for the ride, Monocule wastes no time in setting the stage for Warren’s performance. Bursting with energy right out of the gate, Monocule’s rhythmic synth work and mesmerizing basslines take the lead and eagerly push us to move onto the dance floor. Crafted for a late-night experience at your local underground club, “Awakening” takes off once Warren chimes in with her beautiful vocal riff, which while it almost feels out of place, completely captures the excess energy provided by Monocule. The riff transforms “Awakening” from just another dark house track to something a bit more transcendent. With the talent that Monocule keeps bringing to the table, we are excited to see what else he has in store for 2021.
