horriblesubs-log-horizon-25-720p-mkv_snapshot_04-41_2014-03-23_20-20-22Elder Tales is an online fantasy RPG that has become popular worldwide. But when its twelfth expansion package, “Cultivate the Noosphere,” is installed, thirty thousand players in Japan are trapped inside. Among them is grad student Shiroe, who isn’t very good at interacting with others. But to survive in a world full of monsters, he forms a guild called “Log Horizon” with an eclectic group of other players.

Oh look, another anime about people stuck in a video game! Sorry if this comes across as Sword Art Online vs Log Horizon, but that is the mindset I went into my first viewing with. This is also only regarding Log Horizon I, as Log Horizon II will be another time. The animation for Log Horizon was solid, thanks to Satelight. I did also watch Log Horizon English dubbed and found that the voice acting was on point. Once I watch Log Horizon II subbed I will be able to compare voice actors.lh6loghorizon

Overall Log Horizon had a pretty decent cast of characters, but except for Shiroe (which on second thought he is too, just not into a specific classification) they fall into too many of the traditional character archetypes. I’m not sure exactly why, but I expected a little more uniqueness from Log Horizon. Also, why didn’t Shiro figure out the way back to the real world in the first season? He tried so hard to make this place livable that he forgot the bigger picture.

PROS:

  •  Genre.
  • Animation.
  • Cast of characters.
  • Voice Acting.

CONS:

  •  Character archetypes.
  • Plot holes.

SCORE: 7.5 / 10

  • I have enjoyed what I have watched of this series. It feels very different to SAO despite their similar premise.
