Third Culture (Sian + Sacha Robotti) Teams Up with Chicago’s Finest Hiroko Yamamura For “She’s Evil” and Enlists Detroit’s Legendary DJ Minx for Remix Duties. Out Now on Octopus Recordings
Sacha, with his German-Italian heritage, and Sian, rooted in Irish-Spanish culture, embody a rich cultural fusion that is reflected in their music as Third Culture. Their artistry shines through diverse releases on respected labels like Drumcode, Aus Music, and Sci + Tec, alongside their own imprints—Sian’s Octopus and Sacha’s Slothacid. This creative synergy lays the groundwork for their collaborative efforts, pushing artistic boundaries and evolving their sound.
Their trajectory gained significant momentum in late 2022 when their first full EP under Third Culture was signed by Solomun for his Dynamic label, leading to support from industry heavyweights like Tale of Us and Maceo Plex. This early recognition propelled them to perform at a sold-out show in Los Angeles, solidifying their presence in the electronic music scene. Following a second EP release in March 2023 and a third EP on Maceo Plex’s Lone Romantic label in June, it is clear that Third Culture is on a rapid ascent, with much more to come as they continue to innovate and redefine their musical identity.
“So, we got this idea going with Hiroko, and I guess we all simultaneously felt like doing a wonky, fun, and experimental dance tune. We wanted something completely different from the current House or Techno trends and more in line with our twisted sense of humor and darker aesthetics but still playful enough to rock a diverse dancefloor. The vocal says it all; it’s a meditation on bad attitude throwing shade. Of course, we are all big fans of DJ Minx since way back. She’s a legend in Detroit‘s big musical heritage, and we wanted to showcase that as a US-based label because he has done so much for women in the music industry. Sian and Sacha Robotti, under their Third Culture moniker, have teamed up with powerhouse Hiroko Yamamura for their new single, “She’s Evil,” which also features a remix from the iconic DJ Minx. This track breaks away from the typical house or techno sound, offering a funky, playful, and gritty sonic experience with a driving bassline, digitized synths, and distorted vocal riffs. DJ Minx’s remix incorporates her signature “wax” sounds with heavier elements, creating two dynamic versions of this dark yet fun anthem, poised to energize dance floors worldwide.
