TÁR Release Single + Video “Isn’t Life a Bitch” | Performing at Iceland Airwaves on November 5
Blending folk, country, and alternative influences, TÁR creates music that feels like a late-night conversation with your closest friend, balancing emotional vulnerability with imaginative storytelling and an unmistakable sense of authenticity. Through haunting harmonies, playful instrumentation, and razor-sharp lyricism, TÁR explores the beauty and tragedy of everyday life, finding humor in hardship, meaning in the mundane, and moments of magic in the unexpected. Their songwriting embraces the contradictions of the human experience, weaving together deeply personal reflections and universally relatable themes of love, heartbreak, resilience, and self-discovery. With a sound that refuses to be confined to a single genre, TÁR brings a refreshing perspective to contemporary folk and alternative music, transforming life’s complicated emotions into something intimate, compelling, and wonderfully human.
With an upcoming full-length album on the horizon, TÁR is preparing for an exciting new chapter that will further showcase their distinctive musical identity. The project will also record a follow-up EP featuring previously unreleased material at Peter Gabriel’s legendary Real World Studios, alongside Grammy-winning engineer and producer Katie May, opening the door to new creative possibilities and further sonic exploration.
“It’s about the struggle of doing everything in your power to break old habits and start fresh, but you still can’t seem to stop fucking it all up…”
Icelandic alt-folk duo TÁR return with their latest single, “Isn’t Life a Bitch,” accompanied by their debut music video, a wildly imaginative and darkly comedic exploration of the frustrations, failures, and absurdities of everyday life. Blending their signature folk-inspired storytelling with biting humor, raw vulnerability, and unapologetically honest lyricism, the track captures the exhausting cycle of trying to break bad habits and start fresh, only to find yourself falling back into the same destructive patterns. Directed by Baldvin Z and filmed and edited by Adam Thor Murtomaa, the accompanying video takes those themes into delightfully bizarre territory, delivering a surrealist patchwork montage featuring sexually inappropriate 1980s workout gurus, possessed fortune tellers, and even a half-human, sandwich-devouring vintage television. It’s an absurd, occasionally unsettling, and hilariously relatable look at the human struggle, finding unexpected humor in life’s most spectacular failures.
Adding to the excitement surrounding the release, TÁR recently performed “Isn’t Life a Bitch” on The Week with Gísli Marteinn, Iceland’s popular weekly late-night talk show on RÚV. With an upcoming full-length album and plans to record a follow-up EP at Peter Gabriel’s legendary Real World Studios alongside Grammy-winning producer and engineer Katie May, the duo continues to establish themselves as an exciting creative force, proving that sometimes the best way to deal with life’s chaos is to embrace the absurdity of it all.
