Skyler Cocco Drops New Music Video For “The Drive”, A Trip in a 1982 Mustang IMSA
The indie-pop music genre continues to be dominated by our eager young non-traditional pop star. We are back at it again, searching around the indie world for another gem. This time around we put Skyler Cocco back under the microscope once more for the new music video for her latest single “The Drive”. Born and raised in glorious New York, Skyler quickly discovered her love for music at the age of seven on her father’s 8-track. By her high school graduation, Skyler taught herself to play guitar, bass, and piano all completely by ear. Jump to 2017, where she dropped her debut album Reverie and snagged over 1 million downloads since. Taking the last few years to hone her skills and redevelop her sound, Skyler Cocco is back in a new chill pop vibe.
“The music video is meant to feel as though you’re looking through a colorful lens at an intimate moment of self reflection. I wanted to illustrate the time spent alone with my thoughts while driving down empty roads and wandering through flower fields, knowing you’ll need to face some things when you get home.” – Skyler Cocco
We originally fell in love with “The Drive” when Cocco dropped the track a few weeks ago and we were excited to see what kind of music video we’d be treated to this time. Embodying her DIY and indie approach to the art of the music video, Skyler self-directed and edited the video herself while the world is resetting. Tapping only her good friend, cinematographer Nino Sammarone, Cocco hopped into her friend’s 1982 European Mustang IMSA and cruised the tri-state area. Sometimes the most literal approach is the most efficient, especially when you have a car that is simply one of seven ever made. Regardless of the video’s simplicity, the music video fits the single perfectly, and may just be what we need right now.
