Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 Share New Single “Na Dem” Featuring Tom Morello
Seun Kuti is a Nigerian singer, saxophonist, and songwriter who has spent his life carrying forward the Afrobeat legacy of his father, Fela Kuti. From an early age he was performing with Egypt 80, and after Fela’s passing in 1997 he took over leadership of the band as its frontman and steward. Since then, he’s kept the group’s sound and message alive—blending dense, high-energy Afrobeat with sharp political commentary that continues to focus on corruption, inequality, and state violence in Nigeria and beyond.
Alongside his music, Seun has stayed deeply tied to activism, lending his voice to movements like #OccupyNigeria and #EndSARS, and reviving his father’s Movement of the People (M.O.P.) political party. Across albums like Black Times and Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head), as well as collaborations with artists like Black Thought, Janelle Monáe, and Damian Marley, he’s expanded Afrobeat’s reach while staying rooted in its original purpose: music as resistance, identity, and political force.
“I strongly wanted to collaborate with Tom Morello because he represents the ultimate expression of protest music. Beyond any musical genre, we need artists like him. Just as my father did in the past and I do now, we need to convey messages that make listeners reflect” – Sean Kuti
Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 have released a new single, “Na Dem,” featuring guitarist Tom Morello, bringing together Afrobeat and protest rock in a collaboration rooted in shared political intent. The track had already gained momentum through live performances and viral clips from festivals like Coachella before being formally recorded and reworked into a studio release. Produced by Femi Koleoso of Ezra Collective, the song builds on a live staple that has become a highlight of Seun’s recent sets with Egypt 80.
Kuti has framed the collaboration as a meeting point between artists committed to protest music, citing Morello as a key figure in modern resistance-driven rock. The release continues the legacy of Afrobeat pioneered by his father, Fela Kuti, while expanding its global reach through new sonic influences and international partnerships. “Na Dem” is also part of Egypt 80’s ongoing world tour, which spans multiple continents and reinforces the track’s role as both a musical statement and a live performance centerpiece.
