Sarah Walk Reveals New Sobering Music Video, Showcasing True Meaning of “Nothing Compares 2 U”
When you cover one of the most important romance songs of all time, you need to have the right video to accompany it. On another die into the indie world we are checking out a brand new music video for Sarah Walk’s cover of “Nothing Compare 2 U”. Another graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Walk hailed from Minnesota but bounced back between LA and London (don’t we all). She quietly worked on her debut album, Little Black Book, with her producer Steve Brown and started off on her journey as a professional musician. Walk would also go on to release her second album, Another Me, using the album as a more self-investigative vehicle on her own views. The album explores themes such as women empowerment, vulnerability, entitlement, and toxic relationships through an open and honest conversation. Having wanted to cover Prince for some time now, now Sarah Walk provides her take on one of the most popular songs of all time, “Nothing Compares 2 U”.
“I was really struck by the opening line ‘it’s been 7 hours and 13 days’ – a lyric that suggests each passing hour is a feat and triumph. This made me think about sobriety and the struggles of temptation and addiction, resistance and possibility. I wanted to zoom in on one moment of resilience that may have otherwise gone unseen.” – Sarah Walk
Hot off the heels of her 2020 sophomore effort Another Me, Walk just released a brand new music video for her cover of “Nothing Compares 2 U” from Prince. The track is a very complex song to cover, especially since the original was created by a master like Prince and made famous by Sinead O’Connor. Walk’s takes a bit more of a slow burn approach to her version, truly crafting her own interpretation instead of merely just trying to make a carbon copy. This brand new music video feels perfectly fit for this version, with pain and sorrow emanating from every note flowing out onto the screen. Featuring fellow artists Meshell Ndegeocello and Abe Rounds, this new video provides a more cinematic and sobering look at the raw nature of the track. We can easily see that Sarah Walk’s version is definitely an ode to the Prince and Sinead O’Connor classics that needs to be heard.
