Rush’s ‘Grace Under Pressure’, Canadian Rock Legends Commemorate This Classic Album With Expanded Reissues

UMe/Mercury and Anthem Records continue their extensive Rush reissue series with the Grace Under Pressure: Super Deluxe Edition, celebrating the band’s 1984 landmark album. Originally Rush’s tenth studio release, Grace Under Pressure features eight forward-thinking tracks that combine the technological energy of the mid-1980s with the band’s progressive roots and accessible songcraft. The Super Deluxe Edition is offered in five configurations—including 4-CD + Blu-ray, 5-LP + Blu-ray, digital, Dolby Atmos, and a live video release of the Grace Under Pressure Tour: Live in Toronto 1984—allowing fans multiple ways to experience the album and its historic performances.

The album marked a turning point for Rush, as they enlisted new co-producer Peter Henderson while maintaining engineering support from Paul Northfield, Frank Opolko, and Robert Di Giola, moving beyond their decade-long collaboration with Terry Brown. Recorded at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec, the sessions built on the creative momentum of Signals, Moving Pictures, and Permanent Waves, balancing cutting-edge technology-driven sounds with the band’s intricate musicianship. The result is a cohesive, forward-driving work that captures Rush’s evolution in both style and production while remaining rooted in their signature progressive rock identity.

Rush’s Grace Under Pressure marked a shift in the band’s musical direction, opening with the urgent “Distant Early Warning” and moving through deeply personal and socially conscious themes. Tracks like “Afterimage” reflect on loss, while “Red Sector A” confronts fear and oppression. Side A closes with “The Enemy Within,” part of the band’s reverse-ordered “Fear” trilogy. Side B balances narrative and sonic experimentation, from the humanoid drama of “The Body Electric” to the anxious energy of “Red Lenses,” ending with the expansive “Between the Wheels,” a fan-favorite in later tours. The album captures both Rush’s introspective storytelling and their progressive rock evolution.

The Super Deluxe Edition expands the experience with four CDs, a Blu-ray, and a 52-page hardcover book. It features the original 1984 stereo mix remastered at Abbey Road, a new stereo remix by longtime producer Terry Brown, and the first-ever complete recording of the 1984 Toronto tour. The Blu-ray offers the concert in HD with immersive audio formats, along with newly remixed Atmos and TrueHD versions of the studio album, music videos, and exclusive liner notes by Geddy Lee. The set also includes elaborate visual and collectible elements, from reimagined artwork by Hugh Syme to replica tour memorabilia, creating a comprehensive package celebrating both the music and legacy of Grace Under Pressure.
