Pusher Unveils New “Back To The Future” Inspired Music Video For Retro Single “Back In Time”

Some artists take themselves too seriously, while there are plenty of artists that embrace their own absurdity. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Back In Time”, the latest single from Pusher. Created by Toronto native Martin Bernie, Pusher has quickly made a splash in today’s modern dance scene and only grows more upon each release. Don’t believe us? With over 50 million online streams under his belt, Pusher’s varied tastes attract listeners in droves and helps cultivate his growing community. He isn’t just receiving the love of the masses, as his career has already caught the attention of tastemakers such as Billboard, Paper Mag, Indie88 Stereogum, Complex, and YourEDM. Pusher’s eclectic music lead to multiple tours with The Chainsmokers, Zeds Dead, Phan-toms, and appearances on television shows like Broad City, Siesta Key, and The Ellen Show.

“Back in Time is a song about nostalgia for a simpler time to escape the troubles of the present – selectively forgetting that no point in the past was as wonderfully pure as we sometimes want to imagine. The music video – created by Occupied VR (who also did the video for my last single Advertising) – has me playing over a dozen characters, and tells the story of a musician being summoned by the Time Council to go on a time travel quest to recruit the greatest band possible (or at least some musicians/movie references) in order to prove the value of musicians to the capitalistic robot overlords of the far-flung future.” – Pusher

Man, we need Pusher to bring his absurdity around more often, just to keep smiles on our faces. With social consciousness being a core element of much of Pusher’s catalog, “Back In Time” puts a new target in his sights…nostalgia. Millennials love nostalgia, and it often clouds our judgment of our own past. Pusher explores this concept throughout the track’s music video, where the absurdity is cranked to 11 when he plays multiple characters as a part of a quest to create the greatest band alive across time. With a handful of movie references sprinkled throughout the video, Pusher tells us that while there were great moments littered throughout time, most of it is not worth making the trip. Pusher keeps this idea center stage in the track’s production as well, using retro 80s synth and classic video game beats to complete the illusion. Pusher is easily one of the most talented comedic musicians playing the game right now, and we enjoy the experience every time he stops by.
