Protocol’s Label Boss Nicky Romero Headlines London’s Inaugural Call of Duty League

Music and gaming are quickly melding together in beautiful harmony. A major partner with the E-Sports organization ReKtGlobal, Protocol Recordings head honcho Nicky Romero has been nominated to play in the first Call of Duty League. Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series earlier this year and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon.

For years, I’ve used gaming to unwind after long nights in the studio and as a way to stay connected with friends when I’m on the road performing. Whether it’s during a show or on social media, I love engaging with my fans. I am honored to be a part of the Royal Ravens first Home Series event and look forward to a weekend filled with all things Call of Duty.” – Nicky Romero

With the tremendous rise in e-sports, between viewership and prize money to say a few, we’ve been waiting to see when Call of Duty would finally join in on the experience. The Call of Duty League is a multi-city global video game league that will feature 12 teams in 11 markets throughout North America and Europe. In its inaugural season, pro teams compete in 5-versus-5 Call of Duty®Modern Warfare multiplayer matches, on PlayStation®4. Featuring the cream of the crop players all around the world, there definitely will be plenty of strong players each taking a hold of the same stage.

“We’re excited to bring an incredible and historic weekend filled with unforgettable performances and festivities to Call of Duty‘s most loyal fans and the community as a whole,” commented London Royal Ravens Managing Director Michael’ ODEE’ O’Dell, who also serves as Chief Gaming Officer for parent company ReKTGobal. “As headliner, Nicky Romero brings incredible energy to the stage. He has strong ties to the UK and the esports community as an avid Call of Duty player and an investor committed to helping bring esports to its fullest potential. Between the action-packed tournament gameplay with Romero at the analyst desk on Sunday, and the Hype Battle and his exclusive concert on Saturday evening, fans are in for a real treat at this can’t-miss event.”

Nicky Romero will be headlining the London launch of the league, participating as a member of the London Royal Ravens. The London Royal Ravens event will kick off a tournament-style format that is familiar to the legacy of Call of Duty esports and former Call of Duty World League format, which featured pool play followed by a playoff bracket. Coupled with a new points system, the updated format will deliver an impactful, competitive experience for all. In addition to the hometown London Royal Ravens team, the Home Series weekend will feature the Chicago HuntsmenDallas EmpireLos Angeles GuerrillasNew York SublinersParis LegionSeattle Surge and Toronto Ultra.
