Producer Duo Variant Field Come Back After 10 Year Hiatus With New Surreal “Immeasureable” EP
It may have been a decade since we’ve heard new music from today’s artist, but not even a decade break can rust his skills. On our latest visit over to Gravitas we were able to check the brand new album Immeasurable from the talented Variant Field. Conceived back in 1995, Variant Field formed after a rather creative meeting between Amani Friend (of Desert Dwellers, Liquid Bloom) and producer Alex DeYoung. Constantly switching between products and styles, Variant Field was able to explore many different genres underneath the electric sky. However, as things tend to happen, the EDM landscape began to shift resulting in Amani and Alex constantly ebbing and flowing out of each other’s lives and musical careers. Now more than 10 years later after going on hiatus, Variant Field is back with a brand new collection for the Gravitas family and music lovers around the world. This brand new Immeasurable EP features three original tracks, two edits, and remixes by Lil Fish and DISSØLV.
While we are familiar with both Amani’s and Alex’s work separately, we weren’t exactly sure what we were going to experience once Variant Field popped up in our rotation. If we learned absolutely anything, it is that this Immeasurable EP is nothing short of a supersonic audible experience that beckons us closer with each listen. Taking their combined experience producing from the mid-90s, Variant Field combines those more minimal and garage beats into a blender with today’s modern bass music and Immeasurable is the result. The three original tracks flow together in an almost hypnotic odyssey of bass and ethereal melodies, creating an illusion that this is your soundtrack as you explore an unknown void. Both of Lil Fish’s and DISSØLV’s provide different interpretations of the immeasurable journey, manipulating the track’s original synth and bass to fit their own vision of Immeasurable. If you need a new sonic trip to take you on a journey this weekend, Variant Field’s Immeasurable definitely fits the bill.
