Pop Punk Band Sleep/Less Release Pop-Rock Nostalgia Pill in New Single “My Serenade”
Even though pop punk may have passed a bit of its prime, many talented artists in the indie world are pumping fresh life into the subgenre. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out My Serenade, the latest drop from indie pop-punk band Sleep/Less, Founded all the way back in 2017 by Beau Turner, Brad Conrad Wiebe, John Corsiga & Zach Fedorowich, Sleep/Less initially began as a band that incorporated all of the influences from each individual musician. After multiple years of honing and polishing their sound, the band picked up some initial traction with their single “Laska” which put Sleep/Less’s style out on display. The band struck gold with their combination of pop-rock and pop-punk, which is a solid formula to rise to the top of the indie rock world.
If we have learned anything from putting Sleep/Less under the microscope, it is that we are simply nostalgic for this pop-rock sound. Even though it feels modern, “My Serenade” makes us long for the early 2000s when pop punk and pop-rock ran wild without a care in the world. This track feels like a time capsule in the best way possible, a single that can serve as a modern dose of the pop-punk sound we experienced in our earlier years. While the production does sound like it could use just a bit more polish around the edges, the single’s raw nature does slot perfectly into what pop-rock should be…unfiltered and with just one coat of polish. While Sleep/Less is just hitting the ground running in their career, “My Serenade” is an example that they are on the right path and now just need the momentum to plow onward and upward.
