Planet Smashers Drop Explosive 10th Album On the Dancefloor || Ska Punk Returns with Rude Boy Rhythm
The Planet Smashers, Montreal’s long-running ska-punk heroes, are celebrating over 30 years in the game with no signs of slowing down. Since their 1994 debut, they’ve become a cornerstone of the global ska scene with millions of streams, international tours, and a legacy cemented further by frontman Matt Collyer’s co-founding of Stomp Records. Their energetic, brass-driven sound and playful lyricism have kept fans skanking through every wave of the genre’s evolution.
Their tenth studio album, On the Dancefloor, is both a celebration and a reinvention—offering 13 tracks that range from protest anthems to love songs to rowdy party jams. It’s their most collaborative effort yet, featuring ska legends like Neville Staple (The Specials), Charley “Aitch” Bembridge (The Selecter), and Sara Johnston (Bran Van 3000), all of whom add depth without dulling the band’s high-energy edge. Montreal ska-punk veterans The Planet Smashers return with On the Dancefloor, their tenth studio album and one of their most high-energy releases to date. Out on Stomp Records, the record delivers 13 tracks ranging from breakup anthems to protest songs to pure party fuel, all anchored by the band’s signature blend of horn-driven hooks, punk grit, and playful humor. Designed with their famously raucous live shows in mind, the album bursts with swaggering brass, cheeky grooves, and heartfelt energy that taps into the timeless joy of ska punk.
Far from resting on their legacy, the Smashers push forward with fresh collaborations, featuring appearances from Neville Staple of The Specials, Charley “Aitch” Bembridge of The Selecter, and Sara from Bran Van 3000. Frontman Matt Collyer calls the recording process the most fun they’ve had across their ten albums, and it shows—the record is a spirited celebration of community, rebellion, and connection. After more than three decades of keeping ska alive and thriving, On the Dancefloor proves The Planet Smashers are still built to move both hearts and dance floors.
