While this darker side of Romero may have taken a back seat in the last six months, he’s back now with a vengeance…and a new single! On our latest visit over to Protocol we have “You Don’t Know”, the newest single from Monocule. Romero is one of the modern producers to change and mold today’s electronic music scene how he sees fit. Not only has he founded one of the most prolific modern electronic music movements, but he is also constantly on DJ Mag’s Top 100 list year after year and has attributed heavily to the global spread of electronic music. Romero continues to surprise us, even dropping a mini-doc series back in 2019 and multiple successful releases now that he’s back on the wagon. Hell, he even put on one hell of a performance at the London opening of the Call of Duty League eSports tournament!
Originally introduced last September, Monocule serves as Protocol’s label boss Nicky Romero’s alter-ego…his creative playground if you will. After releasing Monocule onto the masses, Romero continued to experiment and tweak the Monocule sound behind the scenes. Already a maestro in the world of progressive house, Romero dove deep into the darker side of the house music pool and embraced the underground sound he continues to hone to this day. The latest offering from Monocule, “You Don’t Know” utilizes a muted bassline and a distorted vocal hook that ties the track together. Once nightclubs reopen, we have no doubt that this track will be littering their playlists. This is only the first single off of the full Monocule Volume 2 EP, so keep your eyes peeled for when that drops in full soon!
