Chantal Kreviazuk Releases New Album ‘Rockstar Joy’, An Intimate Portrait of Love and Life in The Spotlight

Grammy and JUNO Award–winning songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk returns with In My Own Voice via Wax Records, a deeply personal project that reimagines 12 songs she originally co-wrote for major global artists. Stripping away the polished, high-production sound of the originals, she reconstructs these tracks in minimalist, emotionally intimate arrangements that highlight voice, piano, and atmosphere, shifting the focus from commercial hits to the songwriting at their core. The result is less a covers album and more a reclamation of authorship, reframing familiar pop and hip-hop moments through the perspective of the writer behind them.

Originally sparked by viral renewed attention to early releases like “Over My Dead Body” and “Feel This Moment,” the project evolved into a cohesive artistic statement about identity and creative ownership. Across songs associated with artists like Drake, Kelly Clarkson, Kendrick Lamar, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, and Pitbull, Kreviazuk reframes chart-defining music as something more intimate and foundational, revealing the emotional blueprint beneath decades of pop culture.

Recorded at Fuse Studio in Stockholm, Sweden, Rockstar Joy sees Chantal Kreviazuk teaming up once again with acclaimed producer Eric Rosse (Tori Amos, Sara Bareilles) for an emotionally charged album that isn’t afraid to get personal or tackle some uncomfortable truths. Built around Kreviazuk’s unmistakable voice and piano-driven songwriting, the record brings sweeping strings, warm horns, and full-band arrangements into the mix, creating a sound that’s both intimate and larger than life. Drawing from her marriage to Raine Maida and their shared creative journeys, Kreviazuk explores the beauty of growing together without losing yourself along the way. The album’s focus track, “Better Than You,” co-written with Tyler Armes and Kyle Reynolds, leans into the more sensual side of things, capturing the rush of desire, the vulnerability of falling deeply in love, and everything that comes with letting your guard down.

But Rockstar Joy isn’t all about love and romance. “Monster” turns grief into a powerful statement of resilience, while “G.I. Joe” takes aim at the devastating human cost of war. Balancing raw emotion with sharp social commentary, flashes of humour, and plenty of heart, Kreviazuk delivers a record that embraces life’s messier moments rather than dressing them up. It’s bold, vulnerable, and unapologetically human.
