Day Drunk Release Electrifying and Emotionally Charged New Single, “Cornercouch”
Formed in 2023, Day Drunk have quickly become one of the more exciting names coming out of Scotland’s alternative scene. Mixing post-emo vulnerability with punk bite and big melodic hooks, the Ayrshire band make songs that feel personal without ever sounding small. That balance has already earned praise from BBC Scotland Introducing’s Stephanie Cheape, who described their sound as having a “laid-back melancholy punk appeal,” while shows at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and SWG3 have helped build their reputation as a seriously explosive live band.
With every release, Day Drunk sound more locked into what they do best: loud, messy, emotionally direct alt-rock built around the kind of feelings most people would rather avoid. They’re still early in the story, but the momentum is very much there.

Ayrshire alt-rock outfit Day Drunk come out swinging on “Cornercouch,” a loud, bruising goodbye to someone who is still very much alive. Pulled from a real experience in vocalist/guitarist Leah Batty’s life, the track digs into that uniquely awful kind of grief that comes when someone once inseparable from you suddenly becomes a stranger. “Cornercouch isn’t a love song, it’s a goodbye,” Batty says, and the song doesn’t waste much time softening the blow — it’s filled with all the things you replay in the shower, scream inside your car and wish you’d said when you still had the chance.
The first taste of Day Drunk’s next project, “Cornercouch” turns all of that isolation, anger and unfinished business into something unapologetically loud and cathartic. It’s messy, cutting and painfully personal — the kind of alt-rock track that doesn’t just want to be listened to. It wants to be felt.
