AMOS & RIOT NIGHT Turns Heartbreak Into Hope on New Single “Pieces”
Liverpool’s AMOS & RIOT NIGHT, the project of David McClelland, has become one of the most exciting names in modern Trance thanks to his uplifting, high-energy sound. Inspired by artists like Paul van Dyk, Aly & Fila, and Sean Tyas, McClelland has released music on leading labels including Future Sound of Egypt, Vandit, Armada, and Pure Trance while collaborating with genre heavyweights such as Paul van Dyk, Sean Tyas, and Ciaran McAuley. His growing catalog has earned five Beatport Trance Top 10 hits, with support from some of the scene’s biggest names, including Armin van Buuren, John O’Callaghan, and Giuseppe Ottaviani. In 2024, he teamed up with Paul van Dyk and Matt Noland on “Shine Together Now,” further cementing his reputation as a standout producer.
Beyond the studio, McClelland has steadily expanded his international presence, making his Argentina debut in 2022 and performing at major events including Trance Sanctuary, Gatecrasher, and Luminosity Beach Festival. A career highlight came in 2023 when he took the stage after Paul van Dyk at the Shine Ibiza closing party, showcasing his ability to command some of the genre’s biggest stages. With an ever-growing list of accomplishments and strong support from Trance’s most influential artists, AMOS & RIOT NIGHT continues to establish himself as a major force in the global scene.
AMOS & RIOT NIGHT’s latest single, “Pieces,” sees David McClelland team up with fellow UK Trance producer Grant Trowbridge and Liverpool singer-songwriter Lucy Starr for his most personal release yet. Written in the aftermath of an incredibly difficult period in his life, the track explores grief, heartbreak, and the slow process of rebuilding after the loss of both his grandmother and his relationship. Reflecting on those events, McClelland describes feeling as though his world had “crumbled,” ultimately turning to music as a way to process emotions that words alone couldn’t fully capture.
What emerged from that experience was “Pieces,” a song built around the lyric, “I’m picking up the pieces,” which became the emotional core of the record. Developed alongside Lucy Starr before Grant Trowbridge helped shape its uplifting club sound, the track balances vulnerability with the soaring energy of Trance music. More than a year removed from the events that inspired it, McClelland says the song’s release feels especially poignant, serving as both a reflection on loss and a testament to the ongoing process of healing and starting over.
