He may be based on the other side of the world, but he sure is gaining a following here in the United States. On another trip over to Ultra Records (man we’ve been here a lot lately) we are checking out “Sleeping On My Own Again”, the latest single from producer MYRNE. Debuting on the electronic scene in Singapore back in 2015, MYRNE used his debut “Softsins” EP to become the first Asian artist on the Mad Decent imprint. MYRNE takes an interesting approach to the electronic indie style, deriving plenty from his training as a classical musician. Over the following years, this producer has made his mark through multiple other projects with longtime collaborators. MYRNE hits it out of the bark with his live performances, entertaining thousands over various live tours throughout Asia and the United States.
“This was a really somber yet fun song that sparked when a close friend of mine – Charlie Kurata (Duumu) – sent me a bunch of guitar instrumentals that he wrote. I somehow got inspired to write about insecurity in a relationship, and the defeated resignation that follows after both parties realize there isn’t much for each other anymore. The kind of song I’d listen to alone, staring out a window, at 2AM.” – MYRNE
As mentioned in the quote above, those instrumentals that served as the foundation of this latest single are also our favorite features. While we know and understand that a facet of electronic music is the ability to have any instrument at your disposal in digital form, yet we have a soft spot for those organic instrumentals. “Sleeping On My Own Again” utilizes those soft guitar instrumentals and pairs them with a solemn melody that creates the allure of a calm indie dance track. Dreamy and surreal, the track lets us explore our own concept of love while it details its own story of love turned cold. Ir MYRNE isn’t on your radar just yet, hopefully “Sleeping On My Own Again” will convince you to add.
