My Mom Is Here Shares “Can’t Find My Way Home” Cover Featuring Jake E. Lee
From the start, My Mom Is Here has been built around live energy and a kind of playful seriousness. Seiff and Sare formed the band in 2023 after meeting in a jazz a cappella group at Columbia, and their very first show—on a Morningside Heights rooftop in matching “My Mom Is Here” shirts—set the tone for everything that followed: tight musicianship, a bit of humor, and a clear love for performing in front of people. What started as a duo quickly grew into a full band, but that core chemistry never really changed.
Since then, they’ve leaned into bigger arrangements and more ambitious live shows without losing that sense of looseness that makes them stand out. Their 2025 debut EP Baby Steps marked the start of that next phase, followed by their first US tour. Now, with their “Power Station” capsule, they’re pushing things further—reworking tracks like “The Lucky Dudes” into fuller versions and setting up a reimagined take on Steve Winwood’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.” It feels like a band expanding their sound in real time, while still sounding like they’re having fun doing it.
“‘Can’t Find My Way Home’ has been one of my favorite songs since I was little. My dad raised me on classic rock. He made me flash cards when I was about three years old with questions like, ‘When I find myself in times of trouble, who comes to me?’ (‘Mother Mary’) or ‘How did Jimi Hendrix die?’ (‘Too much beer and wine.’). Honoring the music I grew up on while creating something that feels me and now is one of my goals with this project.”
My Mom Is Here puts a fresh spin on Steve Winwood’s classic “Can’t Find My Way Home” with a lush new orchestral arrangement featuring legendary guitarist Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands). Recorded live at BerkleeNYC’s Power Station and produced, arranged, and conducted by Terence “T” Odonkor, the performance blends sweeping strings, brass, and jazz-inspired textures into a cinematic reinterpretation that honors the emotional heart of the original while giving it a distinctly modern feel. Lee’s signature blues-infused guitar work adds another powerful layer, creating a collaboration that bridges classic and contemporary rock.
For vocalist Samantha Seiff, the song is a deeply personal tribute to the classic rock she grew up loving, inspired by childhood memories of learning music from her father through rock trivia flashcards. She says the project reflects her goal of honoring the songs that shaped her while making them her own. The release also closes out My Mom Is Here’s three-song recording capsule alongside their original single “The Lucky Dudes,” highlighting the band’s growing ambition through expansive arrangements while preserving the energy and chemistry that define their live performances.
