La Sécurité Unleashes New LP ‘Bingo!’ Out Today

La Sécurité (Montréal/Tiohtià:ke) is an art punk collective known for their electrifying mix of jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements, and minimalistic melodic hooks, all filtered through the city’s neon-soaked energy. Their music is both danceable and slightly dangerous, with lyrics inspired by the Riot Grrrl ethos that celebrate women’s autonomy, friendships, and acts of benevolence. Following their Polaris Music Prize 2024 long-listed debut Stay Safe! and its remix companion, the band released singles like “Detour” and “Ketchup,” setting the stage for their sophomore album Bingo!, this time also partnering with the iconic Bella Union. With it, they continue to playfully navigate the edges of punk, new wave, and krautrock, refusing to stay within any single genre.

Offstage, La Sécurité’s energy is just as vivid, whether performing in underground venues, festival rooftops, or live on Riley & Coe. Their VHS session for Audiotree Live captures the band’s signature mix of disheveled music, expressive poetry, and improvisational movement, showing how dance and spontaneity are central to their creative process. Through their performances and recordings, La Sécurité transform every song into a kinetic, immersive experience that blends urban grit, playful chaos, and a defiant, celebratory punk spirit.

On ‘Nah Nah,’ Éliane played the drums and Kenny the guitar. The lyrics are by Félix and Laurence Anne, dealing with the feeling of wanting to be left alone while communicating a certain madness. Meanwhile, Éliane—with a joint in her mouth—and Melissa were writing ‘Snack City,’ as the band was finalizing the demos for the album.”

Montreal art-punk collective La Sécurité return with Bingo!, a sophomore album that sharpens their bilingual, genre-hopping approach into something more chaotic, intentional, and self-aware. Released via Bella Union, the record leans deeper into the band’s mix of punk, new wave, krautrock, and egg-punk energy while keeping their core identity rooted in experimentation and controlled disorder. It’s a project that feels less like a refinement and more like an expansion of their existing chaos.

A standout moment comes with “Nah Nah,” the album’s focus track, which doubles as a frantic, earworm-driven burst of egg punk defiance. The band actively reshuffles itself here—members swapping instruments and roles in real time—while French lyrics deliver a sharp, almost aggressive demand for personal space. The track captures the group’s broader ethos perfectly: fast, messy, humorous, and slightly confrontational in a way that feels intentional rather than chaotic for chaos’ sake.

Across Bingo!, La Sécurité balances that same tension between structure and instability, with themes ranging from mental health and relationships to satire, food obsessions, and social commentary. Produced by Félix Bélisle and Emmanuel Éthier (known for work with acts like Corridor, Chocolat, and Population II), the album leans into live-off-the-floor recording and improvisation, giving it a raw, immediate feel that resists polish. It’s snarky, unpredictable, and cohesive precisely because it refuses to stay in one lane.
