La Sécurité Share Saucy Single + Video “Snack City” | New LP Bingo! Out June 12

La Sécurité (Montréal/Tiohtià:ke) is an art punk collective known for their electrifying mix of jumpy beats, off-kilter arrangements, and minimalistic melodic hooks, all filtered through the city’s neon-soaked energy. Their music is both danceable and slightly dangerous, with lyrics inspired by the Riot Grrrl ethos that celebrate women’s autonomy, friendships, and acts of benevolence. Following their Polaris Music Prize 2024 long-listed debut Stay Safe! and its remix companion, the band released singles like “Detour” and “Ketchup,” setting the stage for their sophomore album Bingo!, this time also partnering with the iconic Bella Union. With it, they continue to playfully navigate the edges of punk, new wave, and krautrock, refusing to stay within any single genre.

Offstage, La Sécurité’s energy is just as vivid, whether performing in underground venues, festival rooftops, or live on Riley & Coe. Their VHS session for Audiotree Live captures the band’s signature mix of disheveled music, expressive poetry, and improvisational movement, showing how dance and spontaneity are central to their creative process. Through their performances and recordings, La Sécurité transform every song into a kinetic, immersive experience that blends urban grit, playful chaos, and a defiant, celebratory punk spirit.

“We wrote the song when we were hungry. The segment ‘J’ai faim, j’ai faim, […],’ which translates to: ‘I’m hungry, I’m hungry, […]’ was the basis of the scat singing that remained. We had fun with food anecdotes, food-related puns, etcetera.”

Montreal-based art punk collective La Sécurité turn up the energy with “Snack City,” the second track from their upcoming sophomore album Bingo! (out June 12 via Mothland in Canada/US and Bella Union internationally). The frenetic, tongue-in-cheek jam celebrates primal cravings with a fidgety punk-and-roller rhythm, rapid-fire vocals, and layered guitar and synth countermelodies. Premiered via Magnet Magazine, the track embodies the band’s signature playful chaos—so much so that listeners might find themselves raiding the pantry mid-song.

The music video, directed by Philippe Beauséjour, amplifies the whimsy with a collage of tour footage and food imagery, blending cellphone snapshots with analog textures inspired by scrapbooking and vintage cookbooks. Beauséjour even constructs frontwoman Éliane’s face out of food, nodding to Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s Summer, creating a surreal, nostalgic visual feast. The result is a lively, irreverent celebration of snacking, punk energy, and inventive DIY artistry that mirrors the song’s playful, over-the-top spirit.
