Kandle Announces “Inferno” Short Film To Latest Album “Set The Fire”, Let’s Take Turns and Embrace the Flames
While most people either tour or take a break after they release an album, there are artists that just keep moving forward. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Cathedral”, the latest release from Kandle Osbourne. Growing up in British Columbia with her father Neil Osborne, Kandle was able to experience the music industry from a rather unique perspective. Determined to move against the fray, Kandle made it clear that she has no desire to create disposable ear candy. She has no plans to chase playlist placements, as she simply just wants to tell her story. Following in the path laid for her by strong female icons like Nancy Sinatra, Billie Holiday and Shirley Bassey, her true love of music will serve as her guide. Kandle has already snagged the attention of audiences and critics, snagging a “Video of the Year” JUNO nomination as well as a Prism Prize award for her track “Not Up To Me.”. Kandle was also nominated for a 2021 Prism Prize for Set The Fire first single, “Lock and Load,”.
“Images have always been equally as powerful to me as music. Since I began my career a decade ago, I have had the dream of creating a visual album. Ironically, it finally happened at a time when I no longer had the support of a label, management and production team; just the right collaborator and a stubborn dream. ‘Set The Fire’ is an album representing a journey – weaving in and out of states of hope and hopelessness, self-deprecation and empowerment, love and betrayal. I believe this is a journey most of us can relate to as we try and find our way through a complicated and messy existence with great highs of clarity and euphoria and rock bottom lows of trauma and grief.” – Kandle
Following Kandle’s growth as a musician and creative has been incredibly enjoyable to watch, but making all these moves are sapping our own energy just thinking about it. Still hot off the heels of her album Set The Fire, Kandle announced a brand new short film and visual album to accompany the original album. This short film and visual album are called Inferno, and it will be officially live on Monday, November 29, at 6:00 p.m. PST / 9:00 p.m. EST. We actually received our first tease of Inferno with the music video for “Cathedral”, introducing viewers to the first of many interwoven stories across a series of music videos. Inferno stars Keenan Tracey and James Neate alongside some of Canada’s top musical talent, Louis Burns, Kendel Carson, and Debra-Jean Creelman. The project is also directed by long-time Kandle collaborator Brandon William Fletcher.
“Presented as a long dream, ‘Inferno’ is the burning in our subconscious, the way our brains try to process grief, frustration, anger, powerlessness, and the reclamation of that power,” comments Brandon. “While we’re incredibly pleased to be able to present this nearly 43-minute long film, we’re equally impressed that we filmed about half of it within a seven day period.”
“As usual, my partner in crime, Brandon William Fletcher, and I refused to see limitations,” adds Kandle. “Producing, styling, improvising, pulling favours, borrowing our talented friends and crossing our fingers, we created the new pieces of this film within seven days. We surrendered to the chaos, found our flow states, worked with our flaws and dove in. I am over the moon to share with you this film.”
Kandle is also partnering with Plan International Canada, a member of a global organization dedicated to advancing children’s rights and equality for girls, to support their “Power Within” project, with proceeds of a specially designed t-shirt to be donated to the organization. The t-shirts will be made available online, and donations can be made during the premiere of Inferno
