CMG Release Neil Young Compilation With Covers From Mumford & Sons, Fiona Apple, The Doobie Brothers & More!
Cinema Music Group (CMG) is a Los Angeles-based production house founded by longtime collaborators Dave Resnik and Niko Bolas, both of whom bring decades of experience working with legendary artists like Neil Young, Mavis Staples, Billy Joel, and Donna Summer. United by a love for analog authenticity and emotionally driven music, they launched CMG in 2021 to create a space where great songs—classic and new—could be recorded the old-school way: live in the room, minimal takes, and maximum feeling.
Working out of their Venice Beach studio The Surf Shack, CMG quickly gained recognition for their soulful reinterpretations of iconic tracks, earning them the nickname “the cover guys.” Beyond covers, the duo collaborates with both emerging and established artists such as Chris Pierce and Charlie Greene, combining Niko’s legendary engineering and production chops with Dave’s rich background in composition, performance, and A&R. The result is a catalogue of music that feels timeless, heartfelt, and deeply human.
Cinema Music Group’s most ambitious release to date is Heart of Gold Volume 1, a tribute compilation of Neil Young covers performed by artists like Fiona Apple, Brandi Carlile, Eddie Vedder, The Doobie Brothers, and Mumford & Sons. What began as a single session with Chris Pierce grew into a full-scale benefit project with Neil Young’s personal blessing, supporting The Bridge School—a nonprofit dedicated to helping children with severe speech and physical impairments. Each artist selected their own song to cover, and most recordings were completed in just one or two takes, preserving CMG’s signature live, emotionally raw sound.
The album has already raised over $100,000 through a distribution deal with Killphonic Rights, with Volume 1 out now and more installments in the works. In keeping with their mission to make music with purpose, CMG is also producing a new album with Chris Pierce and developing a protest song compilation featuring artists like Draco Rosa, continuing to use their platform to amplify both artistry and advocacy.
