Toronto alt-pop artist City Builders returns with “Vengeful Spirit,” a haunting and harmonically rich anthem that transforms heartbreak, ghosting, and female rage into a powerful statement of empowerment. Inspired by a fateful Halloween party encounter, Grace Turner—the creative force behind City Builders—channeled a personal experience of discovering another woman unknowingly dating the same emotionally unavailable man into a razor-sharp revenge pop single. The track captures the alchemy of personal pain evolving into collective strength, emphasizing the power of women sharing their stories and reclaiming agency.
The song’s creation unfolded during Grace’s tour with MONOWHALES, where long van rides and demo exchanges sparked the initial idea, attracting producer Zach Zanardo and songwriter/manager Jordan Circosta to the project. The final recording became a communal celebration, featuring Grace’s close friends in a wine-fueled bedroom studio session. Layered ad-libs like “girls talk,” “good luck,” and “I’m a vengeful spirit” create a chorus of voices, giving the track a sense of shared sisterhood and unflinching defiance, turning personal betrayal into a unifying, cathartic anthem.
