Badlands Shares Single + Video “Faint Birds” | New Album Nobody Dies Out October 10 via RITE
The woman behind the moniker, Catharina Jaunviksna, found her love for creating music early on in her life. Finding herself intrigued by DIY genres like punk and hardcore, it wasn’t until her teenage years that she discovered synths and sampling. Jaunviksna began her music career working in the filmmaking world crafting scores when she finally discovered her own musical identity. She became a touring musician on synths and keys for The Radio Dept. and founded Badlands in 2012. Since conception, Jaunviksna has attuned herself with the electro community in Dublin, Ireland, and even opened her own studio in Malmo.
“‘Faint Birds’ is about being numb and washed-out; a state where our person can only hear and register subtle details, like the faint birds over the sea, in the distance. But despite this detachment, the song is still indicating a longing for something. Like a quiet prayer for renewal, to be able to feel again.”
Badlands, the project of Swedish producer, composer, and sound designer Catharina Jaunviksna, has released her meditative new single and video, “Faint Birds.” Premiered via Under the Radar, the track offers a glimpse into her upcoming album Nobody Dies, out October 10 via RITE. With gentle, dreamlike textures, the song drifts with an ethereal calm, evoking a sense of quiet introspection. Beneath its serene surface, however, lies a subtle tension — a longing to awaken and reconnect with one’s inner self, a delicate balance between stillness and emotional yearning.
Catharina describes the song as exploring a state of numbness and detachment, where only faint, subtle details — like birds over a distant sea — can be perceived. Yet even within this quiet disconnection, there is a persistent desire for renewal, a “quiet prayer” to feel again. Through layered, immersive sounds and evocative visuals in the accompanying video, “Faint Birds” captures both the fragility and resilience of human emotion, offering listeners a contemplative and deeply moving experience.
