Annabel Gutherz Shares Beautifully Acoustic “Life On Mars” Cover
We were already won over by the initial cover and now Annabel is back with what she does best… releasing another version to get us hooked even more. On our latest peek into the indie world we are checking out “Life on Mars” (Acoustic) from Annabel Gutherz. Officially debuting back in 2018, Annabel found the balance between current alternative pop and classic americana. Annabel introduced herself to the indie scene with her first philanthropic single “Legends”, where she donated all of the proceeds to support various charities in Montreal. After making her debut, she has spent the last few years honing her craft at Berklee College of Music and is now ready to re-introduce herself as a musician to the world. Today’s single is actually the first off her upcoming album which we should be hearing sometime later this year.
My interpretation of the rich narrative conveyed through Bowie’s abstract and surreal lyricism is one of sadness, longing, and hope, with a commentary about society and the media that still rings true today. I love the emotional dimensionality of the story being told, the melody, the production… everything! Damn it Annabel, we thought we were already in love with your David Bowie cover yet you dragged us back in. Even though we originally were swooned by your belting vocal performances that felt akin to the classic Bowie sound while is still truly felt like you made the song your own, once you chip away at the elaborate production your talent shows. A beautiful showcase of Annabel’s raw talent, this acoustic version not only allows more of Annabel to worm its way into the track but still feels like a more stripped-down homage to Bowie’s great original. The acoustic version’s music video builds on this feeling, as it may be simple in design but being filmed in an endless field of vibrant wild flowers adds to the aesthetic.
