Annabel Gutherz Covers David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”, Recasting the Single in a Veil of Orchestral Pop
When you decide to take the plunge and cover a mega star, you better be prepaped to make it your own. On our latest dive into the indie world we are checking out “Life on Mars”, the latest release from Annabel Gutherz. Officially debuting back in 2018, Annabel found the balance between current alternative pop and classic americana. Annabel introduced herself to the indie scene with her first philanthropic single “Legends”, where she donated all of the proceeds to support various charities in Montreal. After making her debut, she has spent the last few years honing her craft at Berklee College of Music and is now ready to re-introduce herself as a musician to the world. Today’s single is actually the first off her upcoming album which we should be hearing sometime later this year.

After having covered .Annabel’s career over the last year, we are excited anytime she decides to tweak her formula and try something new. Even though she is still early on in her career, the mere fact that she just decided to cover the David Bowie is already impressive enough. When listening to both Bowie’s and Annabel’s versions side by side, we can confidently say that she completely made “Life on Mars” into her own single. While Annabel considers Bowie’s version to be one of her favorite songs of all time, Annabel’s orchestral pop version is a beautiful homage to the late performer. Annabel even time the release to coincide with the new Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream to pay the biggest homage to a man who was truly larger than life.
