Anime Club: Prison School
Hello all your Mirlanders! For this week’s anime club we have the hyper-sexualized vixens of the Underground Student Council in Prison School
PRISON SCHOOL
CREATED BY: Tsutomu Mizushima
NO. OF EPISODES: 12 Episodes
GENRE: Comedy, Romance
YEAR: 2015
COUNTRY: Japan
Hachimitsu Academy, one of the strictest girls academies in Tokyo, has decided to admit boys into their system. Kiyoshi Fujino is one of these new boys, but he discovers to his shock that he and his four friends—Takehito “Gakuto” Morokuzu, Shingo Wakamoto, Jouji “Joe” Nezu, and Reiji “Andre” Andou—are the only male students among 1,000 girls. Even worse are the draconian laws that are still in place, which punishes even the most minor infractions with a stay in the school’s prison. A series of perverted accidents causes the five boys to be “arrested” and receive an ultimatum: either stay a month in the school’s Prison Block or be expelled.
Ugh Prison School…why the hell did I watch you? I need to stop taking recommendations from that one colleague. Anyway let’s put it this way…Prison School is definitely not an anime I would normally watch. Prison School is a hyper-sexual mess of gluttony and punishment and we completely love it. I don’t understand why they would punish their prisoners that way unless they were trying to get them off (or the audience) and it obviously doesn’t work, yet it appeals to our primal instincts. Sure, let’s get smacked around by a large-breasted high-schooler with a riding crop. Sure, what could go wrong?
Everything could go wrong when it comes to this prison. The actual story/plot is barely even there, but then again an anime such as Prison School doesn’t necessarily need it. There are only a few memorable characters, such as Hana Midorikawa who has a weird and twisted revenge plot/arc with protagonist Kiyoshi or Meiko who punishes the boys in the cruelest and almost sexual ways, but it is not enough to keep the show afloat. Despite this, Prison School has found plenty of surprising success. Clearly the creators know who their audience is.
PROS:
- Hilarious hyper-sexualization.
- Primal instinct appeal.
CONS:
- Thin plot.
- Few memorable characters.
- Rather uninteresting.
SCORE: 5.5 / 10
