Alright Enough Teasing, Tim van Werd Drops New Progressive House Collection “Who You Are” EP
While we may have snagged our first two tastes of Who You Are earlier this month, now it is here prime and ready in full. On our latest visit over to Protocol we were able to check out Who You Are, the latest EP from Tim Van Werd. Unlike many producers in similar positions, Van Werd’s love for music came through the lens of classical and jazz, showing interest in the drums, trumpet, and piano. This versatile interest in music heavily influenced his early sound, further pushing Van Werd to break the traditional rules of genre in music. Earning support early on in his career from the likes of Hardwell and Nicky Romero, Van Werd truly broke through the noise when he released his hit “Balkan Disco” which has now amassed over 4 million plays. Van Werd has followed up with multiple successful singles that have caught the eyes of many playmakers in the industry, with “Who You Are” being his sixth release on Protocol.
“With ‘Who You Are‘ I really wanted to bring a strong and peaceful message that shows you can’t always control things in life. For the last couple of months, I have been working with David Westmeijer very close on ‘Who You Are‘ and ‘Same Three Words‘ to write the lyrics and melodies. His vocals add such a warm element to the tracks, and I believe the lyrics really send the right message. For ‘Believe,’ I wanted to create a dreamy, hopeful track and Misha Miller‘s beautiful vocals are the perfect fit! Finally, the disco influences in combination with the strong percussion and synthesizers of ‘Tell It All‘ add the energy I was looking for to round up the EP. I hope the EP allows fans to dream away into another world. On the one hand, it brings peaceful, hopeful vocals and on the other hand high energy levels that fit perfectly for the club.” – Tim van Werd
After plenty of time teasing, Van Werd has finally dropped his latest project in full and we are completely here for it. Essentially serving as a gallery of Van Werd’s work, Who You Are showcases four rather distinct styles of music that Van Werd explored over throughout his career. While focusing on his primary deep progressive house style, the EP swings back and forth between dance floor smashes and more ethereal experiences. While we were already treated to half the EP through singles, “Who You Are” and “Same Three Words”, the EP includes two new tracks that fit into the EP’s overall motif. While we had completely fallen for the EP’s title track, our new favorite may have to go to “Believe”. Van Werd’s production is emotional yet hypnotic while still being groovy and ethereal. If you are a fan of Tim Van Werd’s style of progressive house music, then the Who You Are EP will exist in your rotation for quite some time.
