Toronto Indie Artist Tom Boy Drops New Alt-Pop Single “Thunder”
We might still be under the notion that pop music is overly produced and not worth our time, but indie artists keep trying to convince us otherwise. This time around we are revisiting the world of alt-pop for “Thunder”, the brand new single from Toronto artist Tom Boy. Tom Boy AKA Nate Daniels is a quickly rising indie artist in the Toronto scene that is quickly grabbing the attention of larger acts in the area like Indie88 and 102.1 The Edge. Often compared by other artists as a male version of Sia, Tom Boy’s focus on moving lyrics and grand arrangements are becoming a staple of the artist’s repertoire. Tom Boy’s last EP Nothing To Lose snagged him plenty of acclaim in the media world and online community, snagging features on numerous Spotify playlists and being used in multiple shows on YouTube Red, MTV, BBC, and Netflix just to name a few.
The independent scene continues to warp and mold the pop music genre into something more than just overly-manufactured garbage, and artists like Tom Boy are pulling us back in. Tom Boy takes the traditional alt-pop style that we’ve heard over the last few years (think Shawn Mendes, Phillip Phillips) and adds his own flair to showcase his own talents. For example, throughout “Thunder” he lets his beautifully emotional lyrics take center stage, while an alternative almost Latin beat accompanies each and every note. If “Thunder” isn’t exactly your fancy, each of Tom Boy’s tracks takes a slightly different approach and don’t hold back on what Tom Boy does best. While Tom Boy may still be relatively new to the scene, we can say that he will take the next step into the spotlight very soon.
