Thomas Newson Gives a Sneak Peek of His Upcoming EP with New Single “Home,” Featuring Flachbau
When you’ve been in the music scene for over a decade, there’s quite the chance that your name will have some weight once thrown around. On our latest visit to Protocol Recordings we are checking out “Home”, the latest drop from Thomas Newson. First bursting out onto the scene back in 2013, Newson found initial buzz with a series of big room releases over at Revealed, Musical Freedom, and Armada, just to name a few. While he dabbled in big room back in the day, recent years have found Newson exploring groovy house sounds. Now after three years away, Newson stops back off at Protocol to join alongside Tim van Werd for “Ocean Deep”. Fun fact, Newson is also the son of DJ Marco V, who has also become a frequent collaborator.
While it has definitely been a minute since Newson has been kicking around the Protocol Recordings studio, Newson’s been a major player in the big room scene since 2013. This time recruiting singer/songwriter Flachbau along for the ride, Newson adds “Home” to his overwhelming catalog. This time thriving in the world of melodic house, Newson utilizes ethereal vocals and breezy but almost spatial melodies to create an intriguing soundscape that feels futuristic yet fragile and welcoming at the same time. “Home” is just the first step on Newson’s exploration of groovy house styles, as he has a full EP dropping later this month to fully round out his journey. After covering Newson for what it feels like the last several years, we will be keeping an eye on this journey as it blossoms and develops.
