The Taking, a $14k Horror Film Made By The BAPartists
Hello everybody! Sorry I missed yesterday’s post, I have been so busy with too many other projects. I think I took on more than I could handle. Anyway a few days ago I was contacted by The BAPartists (check out their youtube page here: http://goo.gl/6KGMOE) about their upcoming project The Taking. Here is my take on the film.
The Taking is a low budget horror film produced and shot by filmmaking duo Cezil Reed & Lydelle Jackson, who make up The BAPartists. The film looks great for such a meager budget of $14k, if I wasn’t a poor film critic I would give them much more just to make the film even more awesome. The film’s production value looks especially great since it was all shot during the day and on the Canon 5D Mark II. That is a great piece of equipment.
Here is a brief plot synopsis from the film’s website:
“The Taking is a cinematic experience of light and sound. It’s a film made with balls and intellectual muscle. In this film you will discover horrific art told via grisly images and two tales of woe…
The experience begins with Carl who seeks to murder his best friend and adulterous fiancé. Unexpectedly, he awakens in a wooded wasteland. He has no idea as to where he is or how he got there. A sinister family now holds him captive along with another victim named Jade. They’re subjected to arcane rituals and are left tied to a tree for several days.
When Carl looks back on their grisly experience in the forest, he comes to the realization that they’re not just in the woods; rather, they are in a place where people go to fight the vices living inside of them. The losing of this fight is something far worse than death; it’s the utter damnation of one’s very soul.”
What I was surprised to find out that after a mere six months of the end of production The Bapartists were able to secure international and domestic funding for The Taking. For an independent film that is quite impressive. You can read more about their distribution here: http://goo.gl/lyfWwC
The Taking has already premiered at four international film festivals so far. The Taking will be screened at the Sitges International Film Festival 2013 in October 2013. Just to give you an idea of what the film looks like, here is a nice little screenshot for you:

I love my low budget horror, like the best of them (i would hope), but this was bloody awful (no pun, just English)
It wasn’t as good as I thought it would have been, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
