Talking Violet Explore Love, Loss, and Letting Go in “In Your Mind”

Talking Violet blend shoegaze’s swirling atmospherics, grunge’s grit, and dream-pop’s shimmer into a self-coined genre they call “dreamo”—a lush yet piercing sound that balances intimacy and intensity. Formed in Windsor, ON, the four-piece—Jillian Goyeau (vocals, guitar), Jayden Turnbull (guitar, vocals), Jeremie Brousseau (drums), and Dylan Iannicello (bass)—craft music that wrestles with the grief of personal change, especially within relationships, creating songs that feel both infinite in scope and deeply personal.

Their emotionally charged style has earned them notable support, including a #2 peak on SiriusXM’s The Verge, placements on major Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and a 14-week run on the NACC charts. “In Your Mind” is the next chapter in their evolution—emotionally raw, sonically expansive, and wholly human, offering listeners a space for catharsis within its cascading walls of sound and quiet, vulnerable moments.

Talking Violet’s new single “In Your Mind” is a sonically rich, upbeat track that hides a darker emotional core beneath its shimmering layers. Built on driving guitars and lush textures, the song reflects on the helplessness of loving someone through pain and uncertainty—a push-and-pull between wanting to help and accepting that healing is ultimately out of your hands. Vocalist Jillian Goyeau distills that ache into the haunting hook, “I wonder if I echo in your mind?”—a lingering plea for connection that cuts through the haze of distance and silence.

Produced and mixed by Justin Meli (Universal Canada) and mastered by Will Yip (Turnstile, Lauryn Hill, Panic! At The Disco), the track continues the emotional arc of their album Everything At Once, channeling the grief of relationship changes and the process of self-redefinition. Goyeau shares that the painful transformations behind the song forced her to relearn her own identity outside of others and begin healing a long-standing people-pleasing tendency—a journey that still continues. The result is a track that feels both cathartic and unresolved, echoing the truth that some emotional ties never truly disappear.
