Talented Producer Savej Releases Entrancing New Album “Entheogenetic”, An Experiment in the World of Bass Music
While we have spent more time in the club this year than in the experimental studio, every time we peek back in we have a bass maestro taking the reins. On our latest visit to Gravitas we are checking out Entheogenetic, the brand new album from Savej. As a self-proclaimed student of life, Savej spent years of his life exploring the connective consciousness as well as humanity’s connection to nature and all of its wonder. While being fascinated by skilled throat singing over the years, it wasn’t until recently that Savej took the plunge and decided to add the skill to their tool belt. Many many sore throats later (just around a mere 50) and six weeks, Savej learned the Kargyraa technique of throat singing and can be heard on the album’s title track “Solstice”. There are a few other little intricacies sprinkled throughout the album, so you may need to take the journey for yourself and see what you can find.
“For this album, each track dives into a different cultural vocal context while maintaining a unified musical thread. Each culture whose vocals/chants were used has a longstanding spiritual or shamanic tradition, many of which seem to have a common point of origin deep in prehistory. As usual with my music, the intention is to highlight the melting pot that is Earth, pay homage to various cultures who have paved the way for truth seekers, and to create a sense of celebratory unity as we collectively drop into dance to move these sonic messages through our bodies and remember our deepest essence through groove and bass.” – Savej
Savej’s Entheogenetic album is a genre-defying musical odyssey that melds ancient world influences with modern bass elements. Through collaborations with artists like SOOHAN, Liquid Bloom, Lil Fish, Johnny Buffalo, and Ronnā Yawa, the album seamlessly weaves together a tapestry of voices and influences, creating a mesmerizing sonic experience. Each track on the album offers a unique blend of traditional and contemporary elements, from ethereal strings to heavy 808 bass, Hindi and Albanian chants, Native American vocals, and more. Entheogenetic showcases Savej’s remarkable ability to pay homage to the ancient roots of music while crafting a futuristic sound that resonates with a broad audience. The album opens with “Entheom,” a track that seamlessly transitions from natural sounds to signature Savej bass, setting the tone for the entire album. Other tracks like “Pulse” and “Yarnana” maintain this sonic identity, offering innovative soundscapes and collaborations that leave a lasting impression. The album’s meditative moments in tracks like “Ani Couni” and its energetic peaks in songs like “Bahyay” ensure a diverse and emotionally resonant listening experience.
