Singer/Songwriter TARYN Feels “Brand New”, Injects Old Soul Into Modern Pop In New Single
When you decide to go down the path of a professional musician, you should be open-minded to all genres as you never know where inspiration will come from. On our latest peek inside the indie world we are checking out “Brand New”, the latest single from TARYN. Growing up in Ohio, TARYN was surrounded by all kinds of music throughout her childhood, regardless of the genre or decade. With musically open-minded parents, they encouraged TARYN to step out of her comfort zone and explore her creative urges…resulting in TARYN picking up the guitar at six years old. Now 23 years old and after many years of practicing, TARYN is embracing her singer/songwriter persona and blossoming into the well-rounded artist that she yearns to become.
“There was a simple message I wanted to convey lyrically and the instrumental did the rest. I’ve carried my past around and let regrets fuel decisions without justification. ‘Brand New’ let me realize our past is not something we have to correct, but it helps us understand our growth. We’re here to learn, experience, and explore. It’s a gift to be vulnerable, to feel comfortable expressing experiences in sonically harmonious ways” – TARYN
Even though TARYN decided to follow down the path of pop music, it is evident that her wide range of influences change the type of music we’d expect to hear. Deriving many elements from old soul artists like Norah Jones, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, and Van Morrison, TARYN blends those sounds within the framework of modern pop to create a nostalgic and familiar style. TARYN’s warm and comforting vocal performance takes the reins, even when the drums and bass step up to the plate yet still allow her vocals to be the main performance. While this may be our first introduction to TARYN, there is something about her music that keeps us eagerly wanting more. Personal and anything but naive, “Brand New” is a solid indie-pop number to keep us entertained through this tumultuous summer.
