ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW: LET’S DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN
DIRECTED BY: Kenny Ortega
STARRING: Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Ryan McCartan, Reeve Carney, Christina Milian, Annaleigh Ashford, Staz Nair, Ivy Levan, Adam Lambert, Ben Vereen, Tim Curry

It’s the weird and wonderful as newly engaged couple Brad and Janet encounter a problem when their car halts in the rain. They both look for contact, only to find themselves at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite. A place to stay is offered, but will Brad and Janet want to remain there? Especially when a large group of Transylvanians dance to the ‘Time Warp’, Dr. Frank-N-Furter builds his own man and a whole host of participation for the audience to enjoy.
The plot of the remake is fundamentally identical to the original film, with some additional scenes wrapped around the film. These scenes show several people attending a theatrical showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and subsequently are used to introduce some of the audience participation elements from the original film (such as throwing toilet paper on the line “Great Scott!”).
Okay I am going to start off with a simple observation…why the hell did they need to make Rocky Horror, let alone a TV movie!?!?! Also on FOX!? Really!?!? Alright, sorry I just had to get that out of my system. I’m going to tell you right now, there is very little that is actually GOOD about this remake. I mean very little. I was rather surprised to see that Tim Curry agreed to make this tribute, but his very dry portrayal of the detective worked. Victoria Justice didn’t do half bad either, even if there felt to be very little chemistry between her and the rest of the cast. Lastly Adam Lambert, you are definitely no Meat Loaf, but you pulled off “Hot Patootie” really well. Thanks for trying you glittery bitch. Oh I almost completely forgot about Laverne Cox. I was questionable about her playing at first, but she completely nailed it.
As far as the songs go, since it is a musical after all, they were mainly trash. In my personal option, “Sweet Transvestite” and “Hot Patootie” were the only tracks that were even passable. I mean it wasn’t a huge surprise, as it is often that the original is much better. Also, here is a little thing that bothers me. I know that is a tribute and remake, but did that have to go shot for shot? There is very little ambition and change between the original and this new version. Just leave it alone. LEAVE ROCKY HORROR ALONE!
- Laverne Cox performance.
- Tim Curry cameo.
- Adam Lambert performance.
- Not an ambitious remake.
- Only two songs are barely passable.
- Very little chemistry with Victoria Justice.
SCORE: 5.5 / 10
