RIP Youth Shares Sexy Retro Pop Single “Midnight Hour”, Nostalgic Funk With Modern Flair
Can we just say that we are loving this retro wave movement that currently affects pop music? On our latest visit to Radikal Records we are checking out “Midnight Hour”, the latest drop from RIP Youth. Created by songwriter/producer James Maas, RIP Youth is the new moniker from Maas, who has been busy adding their influence to the modern electronic music world for the last decade. Originally discovered by radio broadcaster Alan Jones (Dennis Handlin AM, Chairman, Sony BMG Australia and Australia’s number one radio broadcaster), the door was left open just enough for Maas to shove his foot in the door. Over the last decade, Maas has had many notches in his belt, including collaborating with R3HAB, CXLOE, JOJO, Brian McFadden, and Stella Santana just to name a few. Now embracing being RIP Youth, his debut single “You Love” was well received by fans and audiences alike, sparking the fire for the next step in Maas’s career.

We’ve made it pretty clear through our inspection of the indie-pop world that we are suckers for artists who pull from their roots and into this current era of pop music. RIP Youth captures our attention once again, this time finding the correct balance of 80s synth-pop and seductive funk to keep us hitting the button over and over. While a bit more of a sleeper hit for us at Modern Neon, RIP Youth’s detailed account of all of the adventures that can happen once the sun sets and we take night’s sweet embrace has us yearning for more. With “Midnight Hour” being the second time Maas has stepped into the vocal hot seat as RIP Youth, we hate to admit that we might have fallen hard. “Midnight Hour” is a fun balance of nostalgic retro funk and the right amount of sex appeal to keep all the elements lubed up and working as a funky pop single.
